Fox News, not Donald Trump, is America's greatest threat to democracy
Post-conviction, the disgraced Trump now needs Fox more than Fox needs Trump
A message to the pro-Democratic Party opposition-research operations from an independent investigator who publicly takes sides and has earned a legitimate standing in your world. . . .
Respectfully, with the exception of Media Matters and a handful of other concerns, you are greatly misdirecting your attention and resources.
Fox News—not the disgraced Donald Trump, whom everyone already knows lies about everything and cares only about himself—is the real biggest threat to American democracy today. Now vulnerable because of his recent criminal conviction and the civil judgments against him, Trump needs Fox more than Fox needs Trump.
It is Fox News, publicly feigning high confidence and inevitability, that is defending, protecting, and propping up a legally diminished Trump while conducting a televised 24-7 smear campaign against the accomplished but weakened President Joe Biden, as well as the distinguished but unpopular Vice President Kamala Harris and the uncharacteristically skittish and even momentarily docile Democratic Party.
You must refocus your attacks. Investigate and reveal the entire reckless and malicious Fox News defamation apparatus, starting with the evening hosts—especially the clownish hypocrite Jesse Watters and, in my opinion, the second biggest liar in America, Sean Hannity. Tell the world about their true motives, conflicts of interest, and personal character as an essential part of the 2024 general-election campaign.
There is a huge public record out there, as well as people with information who are ready to talk. Hold these Fox political operatives—who are simply disguised as journalists while hiding behind the First Amendment—accountable.
Use documented evidence from, among other litigations and existing sources, the Dominion Voting Systems civil case—which Fox settled for $787.5 million in 2023 because of proof that its hosts were lying to their unsuspecting loyal viewing audience about Trump’s fabrications and untrue claims of election fraud since 2020.
Expose these liars and thieves at Fox—along with their “alternative facts” that deflect and deceive, including about the Trump-inspired Capitol Insurrection—to those who watch the network’s false and misleading programming in countless homes, offices, and public venues. How long will they allow Fox News to double-cross them?
Without Fox—which I continue to insist is a criminal enterprise—Trump, post-conviction, is nothing more than an emperor with bad hair and no clothes.
In my March 31 Mobology column—two months before Trump’s long-awaited comeuppance on May 30—I wrote:
The $2.7 billion defamation case, Smartmatic v. Fox News, is on deck and should reveal even more of the mindless speculations, half-baked opinions, and poorly sourced facts from Fox News, aka Trump State Television.
In 2024, both Donald Trump and Fox News are still here, providing cover for each other while sabotaging fairness and accuracy in journalism and American politics. And Fox News, arguably an existing criminal enterprise that is posing as a legitimate news organization, should be investigated and pursued, just like a corrupt politician.
Meantime, with the recent conviction of Hunter Biden and details of his sordid past graphically presented in open court during his trial, the shameless scam artists at Fox News now appear to be itching for a showdown on the issue of morality. . . .
The Democrats should waste no time giving it to them.
