“Meyer Lansky, the financial wizard of organized crime, knew perhaps better than anyone else that the successful annihilation of organized crime’s subculture in America would rock the ‘legitimate’ world’s entire foundation, which would ultimately force fundamental social changes and redistributions of wealth and power in this country.

“Lansky’s dream was to bond the two worlds together so that one could not survive without the other. Those of us who recognize the vast power of the underworld in our nation today also understand how close Lansky’s dream—and our nightmare—is to coming true.”  (Dan Moldea, Interference:  How Organized Crime Influences Professional Football, page 436)

Any reasonable definition of organized crime is that it is enterprise crime, conspiracy crime, and crime by association.  Consequently, Dan E. Moldea—who launched his career as an independent investigative journalist in 1974—has spent nearly 50 years, mostly as a cold-case investigator, researching a variety of real and imagined conspiracies.

And he has brought that experience and his body of work to MOBOLOGY, recognizing that “what’s past is prologue.”

On January 24, 1992, Dan appeared on Good Morning America with the legendary Ronald Goldstock, the former executive director of the New York Organized Crime Task Force.  During the program, they refuted uninformed recent claims that the Mafia no longer existed.

Of course, decades later, Ron and Dan, along with most other mob investigators, have been proven right.  The Mafia is still institutionalized in the fabric of America, as well as in many other countries around the world.

But Dan rejects the old stereotype that leaders of the traditional Mafia are still knuckle-dragging, eighth-grade dropouts, insisting that today’s mob bosses are sophisticated and well-educated businessmen, many of whom have earned MBAs and law degrees.

But, because of RICO and other law-enforcement tools for fighting organized crime, the mob—especially with the irresponsible and even moronic U.S. Supreme Court decision that paved the way for the wholesale legalization of sports gambling nationwide in 2018—has now gone high-tech, online, and offshore, hoping to avoid detection and prosecution.

Dan also believes that certain elements in today’s business, political, and media establishments are now emerging organized-crime groups with some of their operations already active criminal enterprises that work in concert with the underworld.  He insists that organized crime cannot thrive without this institutional corruption and support.

That is Dan’s main reason for creating MOBOLOGY.  These are his principal targets.

As his published works clearly prove, Dan has dedicated his career to uncovering the nexus of business, politics, media, and organized crime. . . . And, after nearly 50 years on the job, he continues to explore and expose—alone, as a fiercely independent investigative journalist and author.
