Catalog to my three-part series about the contract killing of Dean Milo
Money, Greed, and Fratricide
To establish my credentials for this MOBOLOGY site on Substack, I have created an archive of my work that details the research behind my books, articles, andĀ investigations, hoping to earn the loyalty, respect, and trust of my subscribers as I present new content.

Ā Ā Ā Ā My second book, published by Atheneum in June 1983, was The Hunting of Cain: A True Story of Money, Greed, and Fratricide, which detailed the police investigation of the 1980 contract murder of corporate executive Constantine "Dean" Milo in Bath, Ohio.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā For years, it was the most talked about murder in the state since the killing of Dr. Sam Sheppardās wife in 1954. That is understandable, considering that fratricideāthe act of killing oneās brother, like murdering oneās wifeāis such a heinous crime.
Ā Ā Ā Ā During my investigation, I obtained taped confessions from three of the eleven conspirators involved in the murder conspiracy.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā St. Martin's Press released the book in mass market paperback in April 1988.
Ā Ā Ā Ā The Washington Post said that The Hunting of Cain was "tough, resourceful, and intelligent . . . an impeccable job of research and storytelling."Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā The Akron Beacon Journal, which covered the story for two years, described it as "a God's eye view, fascinating and horrifying. . . . The Hunting of Cain should not be ignored by any truthseeker."Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā The Richmond Times-Dispatch called it "a book that could serve as a textbook on the methods of investigative reporting."Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Calling Moldea "a master of investigative research," the Chicago Sun-Times wrote, "Moldea won high marks for documentation and detail in The Hoffa Wars.Ā In The Hunting of Cain, he repeats his zealous devotion to fact-finding."Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Columnist Jack Anderson added, "In the best tradition of investigative reporters, Moldea unravels a fascinating tale of greed and treachery.Ā Moldea has an uncanny knack for placing the reader among the participants.Ā His trained eye for detail is evident in virtually every page.Ā Characters come to life."
Ā Ā Ā Ā Notably, my favorite review of this book was written by a young student at Harvard:Ā Jamie Raskin, now a distinguished leader in the U.S. House of Representatives.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Here is a catalog of the three-part inside history of my Milo case investigation, excerpted from the third edition of my memoir, Confessions of a Guerrilla Writer.
